Kegels form the basis of pelvic floor retraining for all types of pelvic dysfunction. Simple verbal or written instructions does not constitute adequate training for a Kegel exercise (Bump et al 1991)
The 2008 clinical guidelines on the conservative management of Urinary Incontinence, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologist of Canada recommends "proper performance of Kegel exercises should be performed by digital vaginal examination or biofeedback."
