What Our Clients Are Saying

Real stories. More confidence in everyday life.

"I stopped planning my day around where the bathroom was."

I had every service station planned on the way to our cottage and would leak. Now, we can drive the three hours to the cottage and when we arrive Im fine, it's my spouse that urgently needs to go.

JS, Mom of 2, Welland

"I just wanted to feel like myself again."

After a medical procedure i was going through 8-10 pads every day. I was so embarrased I wasn't leaving the house. Now, I drove to Toronto to family and I booked a flight to see my daughter. I have my life back. Thank you.

DM, Dad & Grandfather, St. Catharines

"I thought bladder leakage was just something I had to live with."

After having three children, I honestly thought leaking a little when I coughed or sneezed was just normal. As I got older, I figured it was part of getting older too. I wish I had known sooner that there were options to help. I'm really glad I finally did something about it.

SP, Grandma

"I didn't realize how much I was changing what I did because of leaking."

I would think twice about jumping, running or even laughing too hard because I was worried about having an accident. It's nice to feel like I don't have to be so careful anymore. I wish I had looked into pelvic health sooner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? We've Got Answers.

Here are the questions we hear most often about EMsella® and pelvic floor health.

EMsella® is designed to strengthen and re-educate the pelvic floor, which plays an important role in bladder control, pelvic support, core stability and sexual function. It may help with stress urinary incontinence (leaking when coughing, sneezing, laughing, running or exercising), urge urinary incontinence, urinary urgency and frequency, nighttime bathroom trips, pelvic floor weakness after pregnancy and childbirth, and pelvic floor weakness in men. EMsella® can also be considered by patients who want to strengthen and maintain their pelvic floor before symptoms become more significant.
Kegels rely on your ability to consciously identify, contract and consistently exercise your pelvic floor muscles — and many people aren't sure they're doing them correctly. EMsella® works very differently. Using high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology, it produces approximately 11,000 supramaximal contractions in a single 28-minute treatment. These intense, involuntary contractions cannot be recreated voluntarily through traditional Kegel exercises. You simply sit fully clothed while the technology does the work.
You remain fully clothed and sit comfortably in the EMsella® chair. During the approximately 28-minute treatment, high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy stimulates the pelvic floor muscles. You will feel repeated muscle contractions and tingling, and the intensity can be adjusted based on your comfort. There are no needles, no surgery, no internal applicator, and no need to undress. Once your treatment is complete, you can return to your normal day.
Pregnancy and childbirth can place significant pressure on the pelvic floor and may affect pelvic floor strength, bladder control and intimate function. For appropriate postpartum patients, EMsella® may help strengthen and recondition the pelvic floor. It can be particularly helpful for patients who notice leaking with exercise, reduced pelvic floor strength or changes in pelvic support after childbirth.
Yes. Men also have a pelvic floor, and these muscles play an important role in urinary control, sexual function and pelvic support. For appropriate male patients, EMsella® may help with urinary leakage, urgency and frequency, pelvic floor weakness, and continence concerns following certain prostate procedures. Your consultation will determine whether EMsella® is appropriate for your specific concerns.
No. Pelvic floor health is not only about treating significant urinary incontinence after it develops. Pregnancy, childbirth, high-impact exercise, hormonal changes, surgery and aging can all affect pelvic floor strength over time. For appropriate patients, EMsella® may also be considered as a proactive way to strengthen and maintain the pelvic floor before symptoms become more disruptive.
EMsella® treatments are not typically covered by provincial health insurance. However, if your treatment plan includes a physiotherapy assessment, a portion of the cost may be eligible for coverage under your extended health benefits plan as part of your physiotherapy coverage. We recommend checking with your benefits provider to understand what your plan covers.
